Longtime residents of South Jersey, we purchased this 33+ acre tract of farmland in South Harrison in 2000, from the McCann family, who had originally purchased several hundred acres by sharecropping with residents from Swedesboro. The land had been in their family for over 90 years. We placed it in permanent farmland preservation. The Inn was originally designed as our private residence until 2010 when it opened as The Candle House Inn. This preserved farm represents one of the few tracts of farmland purchased by a family in Gloucester County and maintained as a farm, in recent decades.
Our horses graze near the house; colorful eggs from our hens make their way to the breakfast table, we have a family vegetable garden and hay is grown and baled from our fields by a local dairy farm, Creamy Acres. Our home quickly became known to locals as “the house with all the candles in the windows.” hence the name: The Candle House Inn. This is a very peaceful, quiet setting. Come spend some time with us....retreat and relax in the comfort of The Candle House Inn of South Harrison. “Close to everything, but tucked away from it all.”
